Some Great Moral Systems |
Three things I want to remember from this week are: Although these systems come from different parts of the world, they are remarkably familiar. All promote mostly the same virtues and ideas. It show people support the same basic ideas. Another thing I learned is that we all can learn a lot about each other by listening. If people sat down, discussed their issues, and listened to what they hear not what they expect to hear, many quarrels could be abated. The world could be a more peaceful place. I also learned that for all our difference, we are more alike than different. When most people consider something different from their way of thinking, they look at the differences and the stereotypes. When we look at the similarities, we see more of them than differences. |

This week in class, we discussed several key moral systems. These systems included Buddism, Islam, Confusionism, and Judism. We looked at each of the systems and tried to dispel preconceived notions. After that we looked at how similar they were to each other. All of them shared respect for life and that living these ways made life better. They said that one should respect the body from abstaining or using in moderation alchohol or other vices. |

A way that I can become a better person of faith, is by realizing that most people hold the same ideas in high esteem. |

Why is it that we have become use to spotting differences and not similarities? |
