Journal 5
In this section, my class has been discussing the challenges to faith. Some of these challenges come from inside ourselves. Others attack through and other mediums.
From inside ourselves the obstacles come from either a lack or an attribute working against us. Selfishness and laziness keep us from helping others or ourselves. Pride makes us blind to the world around us. Ignorance leads to incorrectness that can spawn fear.
In the world around us we must recognize the challenges. Some come from others' lack of trust and views that come with them. In those who bring arguments against our faith, we must listen to their argument, recognize what is true, state our stance, and try to bridge the gap. We must also learn to recognize the attitudes and ideas that are sent out to alter our thoughts. In other words, think about what a message is selling you (products, beliefs, culture, etc...) Not all of this messaging is intentional, so don't judge until the reasons are understood.
You can challenge your faith, but look at both of the arguements first. After that go with what you feel has the best case and where your instints pull you.
Things that I have learned:

We as people must learn to think critically, but also learn that somethings require trust. If we are to have faith we must listen to the stances and learn to take a stand in what we see as true. Part of faith is belief.
We must realize we are being shaped by the forces around us. We need to recognize this and try to change as we see as right. No matter what we will be changed, but we can shore up a wall so that something doesn't take us in its way. we still change by realizing and rejecting.
The world doesn't always see that it is changing. When it does realize, it can't stop changing, but it can change in what direction and how it changes.
One way I can be a better person of faith is if I stay conscious the influences on my thoughts.
How do we convince culture to come back to a more reserved approach to advertizing?
