The Prophet Amos
By: John Barrett

Amos for told the fall of Israel and was band from the city by the high priest for saying that. Many of the things that Amos prophisized was not welcome in the community.

Amos lived around 750 B.C. who made a living by herding sheep and collecting figs. He lived a rough lifestyle, sleeping outside with his sheep. He was a man who made his point "short but sweet." Amos said that we was no prophet or son of a prophet but called by God. His mission: to reveal God's will to the northern kingdom of Israel.

Out line from theBook of Amos:

I. Judgement of Nations (1,1-2,16)
II. Words and Woes for Israel (3,1-6,14)
III. Symbolic Visions: Threats and Promises(7,1-9,8b)
Epilogue: Messianic Perspective (9,8c-15)

The book of Amos is real important to salvation history because the message of Amos was to stop the injustice of his day. The people were worshipping other gods and selling and buying on the sabbath. Just as Jesus did when people set up the market outside the temple on the sabbath.

One great quote from Amos is:
"Hear this word which I utter over you, a lament, O house of Israel: She is cullen, to rise no more, the virgin Israel; She lies abandon upon her land, with no one to raise her up."
Amos 5:1-5:2
