Opening Day!
Niel Balholm catches a 4th
quarter pass.
On a beautiful spring day in March of 1983, Arizona
football fans
found themselves watching a professional football
game that was
not an NFL exhibition game. Home of the beloved
Arizona State
University Sun Devils, pro football was a dream for
fans living in
the Valley of the Sun. Here it was... finally!
The Wranglers failed to score
in their opener.
It was a frustrating afternoon for the Wranglers.
Failed field goals,
QB sacks, and lack of coordination resulted in a
bad afternoon for
the Wranglers, and their new fans.
Jim Asmus had a miserable afternoon.
A rather large bull, courtesy of a
local car dealership, was to be pushed into the endzone
after any
scores. Unfortunately, the massive plastic
bovine sat in the north
endzone all afternoon.
The Wranglers were branded
on opening day.
