Workshop on: The Application of PCR and Electrophoresis Techniques
In Diseases Surveillance and Wildlife Conservation
The workshop is aimed to deliver the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Electrophoresis technology for its application in Diseases Surveillance and Wildlife Conservation. PCR (a means by which specific DNA sequences can be replicated in vitro) and its other related techniques including enzyme electrophoresis, DNA probes, restriction fragment length polymorphism, amplified fragment length polymorphism and DNA sequencing can be use for species identification to trace the origins (both epidemiological and evolutionary) of many infectious agents needed for taking action to prevent and control a disease; and for analizing genetic variation among population of many diverse wildlife species. These techniques can also be applied to the preparation of material for basic (moleculer) studies, detection of the presence or absence of a pathogen and its subsequent identification and characterization for preparing diagnostic reagents (to amplification of specific sequence present in a diagnostic specimen), paternity test, sexing, and species identification of food and feed stuffs. Beside its wide application, the methods are becoming more rapid, easier and less expensive; therefore it will be worthwhile to learn and gain this technology.
The workshop that will be held in one day, consisted of two activities i.e. lectures (include discussion) and laboratory works, as below:
Lecture Topics:
1. The Application of PCR in Diseases Surveillance (Will be notified latter).
