HB 2562 had its 1st Read in the Senate and has been assigned to Senate Judiciary

The decriminalization of concealed carry bill was 1st read in the Senate today and it was assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Even though this committee has some problems, like the Chairman, Elaine Richardson, this is the BEST we could hope for.

Senators Aguirre, Bee, Bundgaard and Burns SHOULD be in favor of the bill. Senator Tom Smith is a toss-up on any bill, so pressure will need to be applied there. Senator Richardson, Rios and Cummiskey will be opposed to the bill.

So, as you can see, we stand a REAL chance on getting this bill out of committee and onto the full floor for a vote!!!!

Please send a message to the members of Senate Judiciary asking the bill to be scheduled for a hearing.

If you wish, you may send the following message, or better yet, send your own:

Dear Senators:

HB 2562, the bill which decriminalizes carrying a self defense tool, has been assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Please make sure this bill gets a fair hearing and passe unto Senate Rules WITHOUT AMENDMENTS.

Many rumors have been spread that this bill will allow felons and those adjudicated as mentally defective to carry concealed with nothing more than a $50.00 fine if they get caught in possession of a firearm.

This is NOT TRUE.

If ANY prohibited possessor (and these people are prohibited possessors under Arizona and Federal law) is found in possession of a deadly weapon, they may be charged with a Class 4 Felony.

We should not hold ordinarily law abiding citiens who happen to carry a self defense tool which is concealed to the possibility of 6 months in jail and/or a $2500.00 fine if the firearm was not concealed during the commission of a crime.

If they are carrying a firearms while committing a crime, they are subject to those offenses as well as sentence enhancements for committing a crime with a firearm in many cases.

Please vote YES for HB 2562.

There should be NO TAX on a right.

Arizona Constitution, Article II, Section 26: "The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself or the state shall not be impaired . . ."

Sincerely,

In the subject line, please put: HB2562 - VOTE YES

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Ken Rineer President, FACT
