Becky,
You need to broadcast the election night location. I am pasting the e-mail addresses below. Pete should also call all contributors to invite them.
You also need to give serious thought to what you say to the media. My advice is as follows:
In the likely event that we win...
DO NOT invite the city to "come right back with a bus-only tax plan." I have cringed when I have seen this quote from you. I worked to defeat the tax increase. If the light rail had not involved a tax increase I would not have campaigned against it. I worked to defeat the Chandler 3/8 cent sales tax for buses last year. Raising taxes for more buses is NOT a good idea. It's just not as bad an idea as raising taxes for light rail.
DO say that we won because the city's plan offered poor value for the tax dollar. Do not critique their campaign style (we don't want to give them free advice on how to conduct a better campaign next time).
DO offer to work with the city on our tax-free options... restructuring the bus system-- dropping the low yield route segments & adding Sunday service concentrating service on high yield segments giving vouchers to the transit dependent raise fares for those who can afford it true privatization expanding telecommuting among city employees serious negotiations with SkyTran for the demonstration project no city subsidy, but cooperation with air space easements
In the event that we lose...
DO NOT complain about how unfair it was--the city's use of tax funds for political advocacy, the name-calling, the lying--it will be characterized as whining. You can only complain about these things if we win. Then it's not whining, but pursuit of political reform.
DO say something like "Our crew of citizen volunteers was unable to overcome the million dollar cash advantage enjoyed by Transit 2000. Our hand-to-hand combat was no match for their carpet bombing strategy of mass mailers, TV and radio ads."
