Hi!

Would you take just a moment to help me recognize and reward some libertarians who have done outstanding volunteer work for liberty?

They are probably people in your own town or state.

** I need your help to get their names so we can give them the award, prizes and recognition they've earned.**

Specifically, we need the names of all people who have qualified for our "Lights of Liberty" Awards in 2000.

You probably know some people who did this. He or she may be a candidate, a campaign worker, or just a dedicated libertarian volunteer.

** You may be one yourself. **

[If you already know about Lights of Liberty and know someone who qualifies, you neednt read the rest of this. You can nominate them (or yourself) immediately by going to: http://www.TheAdvocates.org/lights/form.html -- <A HREF="http://www.TheAdvocates.org/lights/form.html"> AOL Users click here</A> -- THANK YOU!]

To qualify for this great award and some great prizes -- a person must have done ONE OR MORE of the following in the calendar year 2000:

1) LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Had three letters using the words "libertarian" or "libertarianism" printed in any non-libertarian newspaper or other publication. (This can include the words "Libertarian Party.")

OR:

2) OPERATION POLITICALLY HOMELESS (OPH): Participated in three OPH booths, for two hours or more per day at each daily session. (Three different days at one event or location, such as a multi-day state fair, counts. Example: you participate in an OPH booth Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at a gun show that counts as THREE OPHs.)

OR:

3) PUBLIC SPEAKING: Gave three speeches to predominantly non-libertarian groups such as service clubs, classrooms, Toastmasters, political rallies, etc. (Note to candidates: speeches may be prepared or improvised, but must be more than an interview/Q&A/etc.)

Maybe you even know someone who did ALL 3 activities. If so, they qualify for special recognition as a Libertarian Triathlon winner!

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT:

1) Lights of Liberty winners will get recognition and neat stuff!

Anyone who accomplished ANY ONE of those important outreach goals in 2000 will receive the following from us:

* A great-looking Lights of Liberty certificate, suitable for framing, signed by Libertarian Party founder -- and Lights of Liberty honorary chairman -- David F. Nolan ( and also signed by me, as President of the Advocates.)

* Public Recognition: Winners' names will be placed at our Lights of Liberty 2000 honor page on the Web. Our Web site is visited by thousands of people each day. This special "Lights of Liberty" Honor Page will inspire others to do vital libertarian work, for years to come.

* More recognition: Press releases announcing each winner will be sent to appropriate local, state, and national libertarian organizations. Last year LP News ran a story about the awards, and we published the names of all winners in an ad in LP News.

* A discount coupon for 20% off any catalog order from the Advocates' extensive selection of libertarian products -- good for an order of any size.

* Entry into a drawing for books and tapes;

* All names will be entered in a drawing for an incredible prize: our "Libertarian Library" -- autographed copies of every book written by LP presidential candidates since John Hospers in 1972! This is a collection we normally give only to donors of $250 or more!

* A 1-year subscription to our new magazine The Libertarian Communicator.

* AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: Others will be inspired and encouraged by the example of Lights of Liberty winners and will go out and do similar libertarian outreach themselves!

* * * We have the names of some people who have met our criteria, but we know there are a lot more out there.

Your help is appreciated! Please read below to learn

*** HOW YOU CAN NOMINATE YOURSELF OR OTHERS ***

We plan to complete the list of winners and start preparing the awards within the next 10 days, so we need to hear from you RIGHT AWAY.

The easiest way to nominate yourself or someone else for the Lights of Liberty award is to use the form we've created here: http://www.TheAdvocates.org/lights/form.html. <A HREF="http://www.TheAdvocates.org/lights/form.html"> AOL Users click here</A>

If there is anyone you THINK may have qualified, please let us know, either by using that form or by telling them to contact us (you can email them this letter),

Or, you can send us information by email, phone or fax (see end of this message).

ALSO: If there is someone you think might know of other people who have qualified (your party's outreach director, perhaps, or someone who conducted OPH booths in 2000), please send me their email address or forward this letter to them, or both.

NEED MORE INFORMATION? Click here: http://www.TheAdvocates.org/lights <A HREF="http://www.TheAdvocates.org/lights"> AOL Users click here.</A>

If YOU have met these qualifications yourself, please don't be shy! Let us know. Your example will encourage other people to engage in these important outreach activities. Every Lights of Liberty award winner is important to us and to the libertarian movement.

Every time someone wins a Lights of Liberty award, it helps us publicize the program, it encourages others, and it helps convince our sponsors that this is a worthwhile program to continue.

Last year Lights of Liberty winners took libertarian ideas to l literally millions of people. Many were encouraged by this program to do extra outreach activities.

Your example is important to the success of this program and to furthering the cause of liberty!

* * *

In conclusion:

Please tell any libertarian activists who may have qualified about Lights of Liberty. Please ask them to contact us. Please forward this email to anyone you think qualifies, or who may know of someone.

Activists who are out there doing the hard work for liberty *deserve* acknowledgement and thanks!

Please help me make sure they get proper recognition.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for reading this and thanks again for the vital work you're doing for liberty! Please let me know if I can help further.

Best wishes,
