Second Amendment Sisters, Inc. Armed Informed Mothers March NEWSLETTER #4 - March 30, 2000 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Fundraising *A.I.M.M. Information *New Affiliates *Media Updates *Coordinator News *Travel Planning Forum *Request for Stories and Speakers ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fundraising:
The month of March is winding down, and we're happy to report that things are moving right along.
Our fundraising campaign is officially under way - the donation web site is:
http://www.i-charity.net/sw.cgi/1097/1562.
We are sending both e-mail and regular mail requests for donations, and we hope that you can be as generous as possible with your contributions. Since we don't have major corporations or big-name celebrities supporting our cause, we are counting on a large volume of smaller contributions from you, the true grass roots. Please be as generous as you can - our largest expenses, liability insurance and comfort facilities, are things we can't hold the march without. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A.I.M.M. Information:
The Armed Informed Mothers' March will be held in the northwest quad area of the Washington Monument (southeast corner of Constitution and 17th). The rally will kick off at 9 AM and end at 2 PM, at which time we'll march 5 blocks up Constitution to the Capitol building. Anyone who would like to tour the Capitol once we get there may do so. We will be putting together a separate "marcher's guide" outlining local rules and regulations, and general information. What we can tell you for sure is that we will not be permitted to sell food or water - there may be some local vendors, but it's best to bring your own. We will also have maps of the location linked to our web site. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New Affiliates:
We are very proud to announce three new affiliates:
- Cyber77 (http://cyber77.com/sas.htm), a new internet service provider offering unlimited access for $19.95 per month, a portion of which goes to SAS. Haven't you had enough of anti-gun AOL? Give Cyber77 a look!
- Ought Six Wear (http://www.oughtsix.com), a new company based in Montana, offers clothing with a pro-2nd Amendment theme. Even better, $2 from every item sold is donated to Second Amendment Sisters Inc., so it's a great opportunity to help two fledgling enterprises at once.
- White House Protests (http://www.whitehouseprotests.com), "a full service, web based corporation that enables you, from the comfort of your home or office, to organize a demonstration using a cusom designed, full size banner to be displayed by our staff directly on the sidewalk in front of the White House or Capitol buildings in Washington, DC A full size 8 x 10 photograph will be taken during the demonstration of your message which will be mailed directly to you." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Media Updates:
The Armed Informed Mothers' March (A.I.M.M.) continues to attract media attention. Our official spokeswoman, Kim Watson, and several of our coordinators have appeared on local and syndicated radio shows. Second Amendment Sisters was cited in national ABC radio updates on March 23, and we can't forget to mention a plug we got on Rush Limbaugh's radio show the same day - thank you, "Diane in California"! We have also been featured in newspaper articles across the country and overseas, including recent write-ups in the Washington Post, Washington Times, and London Times. The requests keep coming, and any that we schedule will be posted on our web site.
You can lend a hand as well. Please consider writing a letter to the editor of your local paper, or calling in to your local radio station to voice your support for the right to self-defense and the Armed Informed Mothers' March - be sure to include our web address, mailing address, or telephone number (listed at the end of this newsletter). Our web site has many links to statistics and information you might find useful. Above all, urge people to show up in DC! Your efforts will go a long way in helping to promote the march, and making people aware that their rights are in jeopardy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Coordinator News:
We'd like to welcome eight new state coordinators to the fold, which brings our total to 22 states. Diane McKeough and Tom Burman, New York State Coordinators, who have done an outstanding job gathering information and making contacts, has been named National State Coordinators. Aaron and Lois Kait, Pennsylvania, have been named Human Rights Advocate for Second Amendment Sisters, Inc. and Director of Communications for PA, respectively.
Special thanks to Virginia coordinator Melinda Gierisch and to Ohio coordinator Colleen Kenna for lending both their stories and ours to a March 23 Washington Post article and a March 27 South Bend (IN) Tribune article.
Our Colorado coordinator, Debra Collins, also deserves a mention. A March 14 Rocky Mountain News interview resulted in three radio appearances, and she was also featured in a March 20 Washington Times article. She has also been instrumental in organizing a march in Denver, and her efforts have garnered the support of three local legislators. Great job by Debra - and by all the coordinators who have been hard at work alerting local media, speaking at local events, and gathering support in their states.
For updates on state-level contacts, please visit our State Coordinator page on the web at http://www.sas-aim.org/organ.htm. If you'd like to join the list, please contact Second Amendment Sisters at sas-aim@usa.net, attention Diane McKeough, National State Coordinator.

A Travel Planning Forum is now on the website at http://www.sas-aim.org/forum/. If you are seeking buses or carpools from your area please check here to find others who are traveling from your area. If you are offering carpool or organizing buses, please post your information here so others will know how to contact you.
If you need any assistance with the forum or buses, please contact moms4guns@yahoo.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Request for Stories and Speakers:
If you have defended yourself, your family, a friend or a stranger with your sidearm, we'd really like to hear from you. Please e-mail us at moms4guns@yahoo.com, send your written story through the regular mail, or fax it to us through our toll-free number (listed at the end of this newsletter). Our goal is to have people relate their own experiences at the march, or have someone read the written accounts, with permission. Also, if you are a woman who owns a gun, we'd like to know why. Each account adds to the compelling case for keeping private firearms ownership unfettered by regulations.
We'd also like to encourage those who won't be able to attend the march to send us Mother's Day cards to show your support. Let us know that you'll be there in spirit! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
We want to thank everyone for their continuing efforts. For an organization that's just under three months old, we certainly have accomplished a lot. We are grateful to all of you who care enough about preserving their rights to get off the couch and do something about it. We can only make this happen with your help!
