Herding has continued to be fun for both the human and the dogs. I was very pleased that Love, one of the youngsters, has been coming along quite well. She was introduced to sheep fairly young and has been making great strides. She will be taking several years off from the show ring to mature and in the meantime, I will be pursuing her herding titles. I'm also hoping to take several of my other dogs in the the PT class and continue toward the goal of getting Alycin's HS title.
I have been quite pleased that my dogs are demonstrating herding instinct. One important piece of advice I would offer is not to give up if your dog is not interested in sheep the first time. I introduced Dream to sheep several times and was about to give up on her when suddenly she just took off. She is now one of my keenest dogs. I have also found that my dogs that have the most interest in herding are also the ones that most enjoy running along the fence line when cars pass by. I have several other "car chasers" at home I may still try at herding.
