UICASU (UIC African Student Union) is a student organization at the University of Illinois @ Chicago that strives to educate and promote awareness of Africa in the Chicago community, and Illinois in general. Throughout the academic year, we conduct a number of group discussions on numerous issues affecting Africa and Africans, and also find solution to the problems. In keeping with the vibrant spirit of Africa, we hold many social gatherings intended to bring both UICASU and non-UICASU members together in unity and host several widely popular events, including the annual Africa Fashion Show. All this is aimed towards creating awareness and interest towards African at UIC, and also to change the negative feeling about Africa.

While our focus and primary audience are African students and students of African descent, we are much broader in our reach. The history of Africa and African heritage are quite rich and we are open to anyone who is interested in learning about or experiencing African culture. We also encourage our members to look into problems facing Africa and seek ways to help combat the often-troubled continent.

There are about 53 countries in Africa and hundreds upon thousands of different cultures and beliefs, yet there is a strong bond that links the continent. It is in this spirit that UICASU attempts to bring all people together in happiness, peace and unity.
