~ BORN INNOCENT ~

... We are each born innocent, each and every one of us, whether we are born as boy babies or girl babies. Some of us may retain this innocence right throughout our lives. There are others of us who may choose, along our journey of life, to cast aside this innocence with which we were born. This choice, to keep our innocence or to not keep our innocence ... without question should be the basic right of each and every one of us, from the second we are born. ... Sadly in this world of ours, not all children are allowed this choice .... the choice to remain innocent.

And the reason for this??? ... the sexual abuse of innocent children!

There are new-born babies who are destined right from birth to have their innocence stolen from them .... through no fault of their own. New little innocent babies who have the misfortune of being born into an incestuous family. We cannot choose our parents, we cannot check out the 'parent supermarket' at the moment of our conception and select the parents we would wish to have ... it's simply the luck of the draw for each and every one of us .... almost like a raffle.

I wonder if the abuser ever thinks about the 'life time loss' they are causing to this child of their family ... this 'supposedly loved' child. I wonder if the abuser ever realises the emotional repercussions that this 'loved' child will experience right through into adulthood. I wonder if the abuser ever realises that they have stolen the innocence of this child .... from that very first .... insidious, incestuous act.

... A stolen childhood can never be replaced. Not any one of us, ever get that second chance to be a 'real child' ever again. To be carefree, to be free of fear, to be unconditionally loved ... and to experience the innocence of childhood as it should be experienced.

... Incest, still very much a 'dark' subject, happens in many families. Statistics show that one in six girls and one in ten boys will be sexually abused before they reach puberty. Statistics also show that each of these children will carry 'the emotional scars' of their childhood sexual abuse right through into their adult lives. Unfortunately, statistics also show that it not only affects the victimised child .... it also affects their life partner and any children they may have.

... We are all born innocent, but sadly, in this so-called forward thinking society of ours, there are still children being born into our world today ... who will be denied their fundamental birthright.

The time is long overdue for us all to act ... to protect the children of this world. We must educate them, in every way possible ... through childrens' videos, through their favourite books, through travelling school speakers, through their favourite television programs, through play-station games, through travelling school theatre, through internet programs for children .... we must educate all our children in every way possible. Sexually violated children need to be taught .... and to know and understand .... that they do not have to continue living in fear, that there is safe, caring, loving help available for them.

... I truly believe .... that united, we can help these 'emotionally tormented' children, by using 'their language', in a loving, caring way that they can all understand.
