Interview 1
February 2003

When and how did you get into gymnastics?
I started when I was four because my mum heard that it was good for your motor skills.

You move into the senior ranks next year, after ending your years in the junior division very successfully. How was your time in the junior division?
I had a lot of fun and enjoyed myself a lot learning and progressing new skills, but in the end I needed to move up and make it harder for myself.

How have you found the new Code of Points?
The new code is a lot harder but that’s what the sport is about achieving harder skills and showing people that there is no limit.

What do you consider to be your best achievement in gymnastics so far?
I think I would have to say making the Youth Games Team.

What do you hope to achieve in your gymnastics career?
I hope to achieve in my gym career that I can fulfill my dreams and look back when I’m older and be happy for myself with no regrets.

Are you working on any new skills/routines at the moment?
Yes, I’m learning a few new skills on each apparatus for example on beam Onodi, on bars Comaneci and stoop and on floor double Arabian.

What do you have planned for the coming months, both in and out of gymnastics?
I am mainly focusing on Worlds and Olympic trials and I am in my last year of high school so that will be exciting.

Who and what do you consider as your main motivation for continuing the hard training?
I think my motivation would just have to be showing myself that there is no limit to this sport and focusing on my goals and not letting anything get in my road.

What do you like to do when you are not doing gymnastics?
In my spare time I like to catch up on sleep or spend time with friends like going shopping and just having fun.

Who do you admire, both in and out of gymnastics?
I think I would have to say my mum and dad cause I know how frustrating it is watching us compete and they’re always there supporting and helping me to achieve my goals.

What are your major goals and aims for 2003?
My major goals for 2003 would have to be getting my start values up for senior, and focusing on World Championships and Olympic Games.
