Kylie Tanner

Interview 3
January 2002

How was the experience of your first World Championships in Ghent, Belgium last year?
It was amazing, such a great experience. I'm so grateful to have been given such an opportunity, to have competed at a competition that only a couple of years ago was just a dream.

What do you consider to be your best achievement last year?
Definitely representing Australia at Worlds. It was very much a dream come true.

How have you found the new Code of Points?
It has its ups and downs. You just have to find what suits you and go with that.

Are you working on any new skills and/or routines?
We're constantly trying to improve our routines by adding new skills and such. At the moment, I'm working on front aerial and roundoff -layout step out mount on beam, triple twist on floor and Yurchenko vault. I'm also working on new choreography for my floor routine.

Do you have any more competitions planned for the coming months?
My main competition coming up is Nationals, in Melbourne, then National Clubs later on in the year.

How is school going? How long do you have before you graduate?
I have 2 more years left, I'm doing year 11 and 12 over 3 years so the workload is lighter whilst I'm continuing with my heavy training schedule. Moreton Bay College is really supportive and encouraging, which enables me to achieve my academic goals with ease.

What have you been up to lately apart from gymnastics?
My mum and I are slowly but surely renovating our home. We tiled all the floors over Christmas, put slate down, and now our next venture will be to paint all the outside of the house.

What are your major goals and aims for 2002?
To increase my start values and just generally improve my routines, and I'll see what happens from there.
