Interview 2
May 2001

You moved up to the senior division in 2001, how do you feel about that?
It's no different in relation to routines, the actual requirements and such are the same. The scary thing is the fact that you're there competing against the people you have admired for so long and you realise you're one step closer to your childhood dream.

How well do you think you will be able to mix it with the established Australian seniors this year, given their successes in recent years?
I'm certain it will be tough competition but I'm looking forward to seeing how I match up. I can only hope to do my best and hope that it is good enough.

What are your major goals for 2001, your first year in the senior division?
I hope to do well at all the major competitions, especially the National Championships, and make as many teams for international competition as possible.

How do you feel being one of the most senior gymnasts now at the Queensland High Performance Centre?
It's weird, I mean you start out really young and look up to the senior gymnasts, but when you are actually one of the seniors you don't realise it. You still think "wow, I wish I could do that!"

Have you recently upgraded any of your skills and/or routines?
With the new Code now in place, most of my routines have changed in one way or another. I think that most of this year I'll be experimenting with many new skills that will help increase my start values.

What do you consider as your main motivation for continuing the hard training?
To compete at the Olympics would be such an amazing experience, and a great personal achievement. So my main motivation, I would have to say, comes from just trying to reach that ultimate goal.

What qualities do you feel gymnastics gives you as a person?
Among many qualities gained, determination is definitely prominent. I feel overall, gymnastics has made me a strong-willed person, not only in the gym but outside of it as well.

What is a skill that you can't perform yet but want to?
I really want to compete front aerial, but have not yet put in into my routine as it has been inconsistent.

For how long do you anticipate staying in gymnastics?
Until 2004.

What do you consider your long-term goals in gymnastics?
I would love to compete at the 2004 Olympics and along the way, World Championships, Commonwealth Games and any other major international competitions.
