Simone Pritchard

Interview 1
December 2001

You dislocated your elbow in a training accident earlier this year, and had to miss this year's National Championships. How disappointing was that, and how difficult was it to come back from the injury?
It was disappointing because I was really looking forward to that competition but that was a while ago and it doesn't get in the way anymore. It took about 3 months to fully recover and start back training but after I got my fitness back and a bit of strength it wasn't too bad.

You came back well from the injury at the National Clubs Championships. How do you feel your comeback has been?
I still have a bit of catching up to do and it has been tough. I would of liked to have done better at National Clubs and I also need a lot more competitions for experience.

What do you consider to be your best achievement this year?
Unfortunately due to injuries I guess just getting to compete at National Clubs was an achievement.

How have you found the new Code of Points?
The new code has been a bit hard for everyone I think. My routines start scores were not as high as they would of been if it was the old code.

Are you working on any new skills and/or routines?
I'm working on an eagle full to Jaeger for bars and a Yurchenko layout full twist for vault.

Do you have any more competitions planned for the coming months?
Canberra cup in December.

How is school going? How long do you have before you graduate?
School is good and I have good friends. I am in year nine at the moment so I have around 3 years before I finish.

What have you been up to lately apart from gymnastics?
At the moment I have exams on at school so I haven't had much time to do anything else but homework, study and gym.

What are your major goals and aims for 2002?
To get my routine start scores as high as possible and be injury free. And if that goes to plan everything should go in the right direction.

When do you move into the senior division? How do you feel about making the transition into the group with the established members of the national team?
Not until another 2 years so I'm not sure how I will go at the moment. Hopefully fine. If I stay injury free it should go well.
