Interview 2
February 2000

On a whole, how do you feel about your year in gymnastics in 1999? Did you manage to achieve all of your goals?
'99 started off with a trip to America to compete in two competitions in Las Vegas and L.A. We went with Danielle Kelly and her group from QHPC (Queensland High Performance Centre) and three others from Victoria. I got 1st on senior bars and 2nd and 3rd team trophies. The rest of the year after nationals was mainly working on new skills so I could gain higher start values. I was disappointed with my result of 16th AA from Nationals because I missed out on the [national] squad but Peggy Liddick 're-trialed' me so that I could compete in the AA in Perth against Spain. I had a really good comp there and put up some new skills (13th AA).

If you could have changed one thing about your gymnastics in 1999, what would it be?
Probably to have competed better at Nationals and at World Championship trials, because they were more important.

What are you major goals and aims for 2000?
- Top 10 at Nationals
- International competition opportunity/experience

Have you recently upgraded any of your skills and/or routines for 2000?
- Forward [giant] full - Jaeger connection on bars
- whip to double pike on floor
- flip - flip - whip on beam
- Yurchenko layout full

Which competitions do you have scheduled for 2000 so far?
Nationals, International Challenge (Olympic Test Event).

How do you feel about your chances for the Olympic Games this year? What would it mean for you to compete there?
Well, obviously it would be fantastic to compete at Sydney but my main focus right now is improving SV's (Start Values) and getting more consistent. There's so many other great girls who would love to be there so it is going to be very hard.

What have you been up to during the holidays and Christmas?
Relaxing and spending time with my family has been the main priority lately. I've also spent a bit of time preparing for VCE.

Do you have any other interesting goals in life for the year 2000?
I'm starting back at 'real' school for the first time in 4 years or so, so I hope to do well in Year 11.

Who and what do you consider as your main motivation for continuing the hard training?
My family are a great support to me and keep me going when it gets really tough. But I thank God for my talent and everything is for Him!

What qualities do you feel gymnastics gives you as a person?
Perserverance, self-discipline and good health.

For how long do you anticipate staying in gymnastics?
As long as I keep improving and making progress!
