Interview 2
January 2003

This year is your final year in the junior division, and with so many of your former competitors moving up to the senior division, you now become one of the leading juniors. How do you feel you will do this year knowing this fact?
Knowing these facts will not change the way I will approach this year, I intend to compete and train hard in hope to reach my personal best, and gain ten start values on each apparatus. I have not been competition for quite a while and so will approach competitions with an open mind.

How do you feel 2002 was for you in general? What were your favourite moments?
Last year was not an ideal year. I was injured the whole time and look forward to competing this year. My favourite moment was participating in the training camp in December at Canberra, where I learnt a lot and met many fantastic people.

You did not compete in the recent National Clubs and Australian Youth Olympic Festival trials, why is this and when do you expect to be back in competition?
Last year I could not compete in both of these competitions due to my ongoing injury, however I look forward to competing this year when my injury is fully healed.

What do you have planned for the next few months?
In the next few months I plan / hope to build up to training on every apparatus. I also intend to introduce my new skills into my routines.

Are you working on any new skills and/or routines?
Currently I am working on new skills on bars. ie overshoot, giant1 1/2 to front and normal grip, Tkatchev (in the bungee). I intend to include these into my 2003 bar routine.

Have you been doing anything else exciting in the past few months?
In these last few months I have been preparing to board at my school (St Hilda's), and for the departure of my sister, who is on exchange and both my parents who will live in Qatar.

What do you like to do when you aren't training or competing?
Sleep in (who doesn't). Otherwise I like to hang out with my family and friends, go down south (travel in general), go to the beach, do art and craft or go to the theatre and much more.

What is your favourite competition that you have competed in, and why?
Canberra Cup 2001 has to be my favourite competition I competed in. I met many fantastic people from other places and had consistent competitions which allowed it to be a great experience. I also enjoyed competing with the Australian team and was inspired by all of the other gymnasts skills/ routines.

What is your favourite apparatus, and why?
It depends on what day it is. I enjoy all apparatuses in different ways and the one that I train/ compete my personal best is my favourite that day.

What do you hope to achieve in 2003?
My first goal is to get back to normal training and be injury free this year. Then I would  like to achieve competing more new skills and gain ten start values on all apparatuses.
