You
have recently come up through the junior ranks to become one of
the best in the country. How does it feel to be up there with
the best in junior international?
I never think of myself as one of the best in the country, I feel
like someone with a great opportunity to pursue what I love and
I’m very grateful for that.
The Canberra Cup was your first international competition,
and you did very well. Please tell us a bit about your experiences
there.
Canberra Cup was a great opportunity for me to experience all
aspects of international competition: the atmosphere of the pre-competition
camp, as well as the selection trial and the competition itself.
Although, I was fortunate that it was here in Canberra as being
home gave me one less thing to think about.
How
do you feel 2003 was for you? What were your favourite moments?
2003 was a successful year for me, moving up to Junior International.
I think my favourite moments would be the Junior Development Camps…
I enjoyed them a lot.
How
have you found it with regards to building your optional routines,
as you aim to move higher in the rankings of Australian Gymnastics?
I really like being able to try new things and see what fits me
best.
What do you hope to achieve in the future in gymnastics?
My long term goals include Worlds in 2005 in Melbourne, Commonwealth
Games in 2006 and the Olympics in 2008.
What do you have planned for the next few months?
Over the next few months I’m working on increasing my start
values and I’m currently in search of music for a new floor
routine.
Are you working on any new skills or routines?
Yes, on vault I’m working on yuoroshienko (sp?) full-twist;
on bars I’m adding clear full and Healy; double pike dismount
on beam and on floor I’m working on triple twist.
Have you been doing anything else exciting in the past
few months?
In early January I participated in a training camp here in Canberra
but beside that I’ve just been training.
What are your major goals and aims for 2004?
In 2004 I’m working towards Pacific Alliance, Junior Commonwealths
and the Youth Olympic Trials at the end of the year.
