Hi, my name is Austin Schwinn. As a national champion marathon kayak racer and a member of the United States Canoe and Kayak Marathon Team, I had the honor of representing USA, Indiana and my hometown of Goshen in the World Marathon Kayak Championships that was held the week of September 20th in Crestume, Portugal.
In September 2008, I had the privilege of being sponsored by my community to represent our youth at the World Championships held at the Czech Republic, I finished 28th in the finals in the Junior Men K1 event (all men 18 and under). This summer, I am staying with my coach, Matt Streib and his family, to focus on training for the World Championship. I addition, I am working with Holm Schmidt, the USA Marathon Team coach. Matt and Holm are working closely thru out this time to incorporate a rigorous training program to further my goals in paddling to continue to proudly represent my community in both National and International events. This year at USCA Nationals, I won the junior championship and broke the course record, I also got 1st place for 25 years old and under in both mens ICF and unlimited class, 2nd overall in both races.
As I enter my senior year at Goshen High School, I am involved in a variety of events throughout the community, church and at school. These include: National Honor Society, High Honor Roll, member of GHS Cross Country team, Advanced Mixed Choir, Spell bowl and several IB Courses. In addition, I work at Fluid Fun Canoe & Kayak Sales, Bristol, IN, have a work-hard ethic, and strive to do my best at everything I do. I have been featured in the Goshen News and Elkhart Truth in several articles since elementary school related to my accomplishments.
As a member of the USA Team I am required to raise sponsorship to help defer costs that I will incur through traveling to races, fees, and equipment for the next 2 years. I am very grateful to my community for their generosity in 2008 and allowing me the opportunity to represent them in all events I was involved in. In 2009 I am once again seeking your sponsorship; this means that I must rely on past and new sponsors, family, friends and local business to sponsor me on a personal or corporate level.
