Nike is my absolute dream dog. She is a female australian shepherd that was born on June 2, 2003. Nike is about 20" at the withers and weighs just over 40 lbs. She is from a line of unbelievable herding dogs and she continues that legacy. She is such an intense, natural dog on stock. I just wish she brought that intensity to agility. She is not very eager to please, but she is the smartest dog I have ever met. She understands just about everything I say. Even with her lack of effort in agility she still excels just enough to qualify and get her titles. Nike's major flaw is her dominance. Even as a young pup she was the boss in our house. If she's not the boss when she meets a new dog then there will be a fight. When she was six months old she got in a fight with our neighbor's 180 lb. aggressive Great Pyranees and he actually backed off in the end. I've given up on socializing and training and I've learned just to keep her away. She also hates children... can you blame her? Some are such brats. I call her the dog equivilant of Seabiscuit; once she looks something in the eye she'll never lose. I get along just great with her. We just had a herding trial on June 17 and 18 and Nike dominated. She is now in advanced sheep, open ducks, and open cattle. She got High in Trial on cattle twice and on Sunday she got High Combined Aussie. |
