Chapter Three As they rode the elevator back to the lab and delivered the specimens to the Chemistry department, Dee asked Melanie what the long conversation with Lance was about. "He was telling me about why they were here. Seems the bus pulled into the Wyndham Hotel parking garage and they had to sit there awhile waiting for their room keys and stuff and the guys were all asleep. When their manager came back on the bus, the driver was asleep, so he thought, and when he went to wake up the guys, he could barely get them up. He thought something was a bit strange and went back to talk to the bus driver and he could barely rouse him. They called two ambulances and brought them all to the hospital. By the time we got down there, they were all feeling a lot better, but they wanted it all to be "official" for liability purposes I guess. He said they were supposed to leave for Detroit right after the show tonight, but they didn't think they'd be going anywhere because they were taking the bus somewhere to be checked to see what happened." "Man, that's scary." "Yeah, I guess they were pretty shaken up. They could've DIED!" "Well, they all looked pretty good to me when we left." Melanie started to snicker. "I didn't mean it THAT way!!!!!!" Dee protested. "Yeah, yeah," Melanie said, "I saw the way you were looking at Joey." "Me looking at Joey? I thought he was looking at me funny." "Girl, you watch out for him. He's a player, a flirt, a ladies man." "Don't worry. I don't think we'll be seeing him again anyway." ************************************** Dee glanced at the clock and was thankful that it was almost lunchtime. She hadn't grabbed her usual bagel and coffee before work and she was getting hungry. She was just about to find Melanie for lunch, when the office buzzed Hematology. "Is there someone there who could go to ER for us?" came the voice of one of the secretaries. "AGAIN?" Dee asked. "This is one armpit of a day! All the phlebos are out again, I'm sorry." "No problem, I'll go." Dee's stomach growled really loudly as she stepped of the elevator, making her smile. "Gotta get food!" she said to JoAnne as she approached the desk. "Yeah, I hear ya….this has been one heck of an interesting morning!" Just then, Dee heard a ruckus at the door to ER and looked up to see just about all of the hospital security guards as well as the two huge bodyguards that were with NSync standing at the entrance. There was also a group of about 25 girls screaming and in the midst of it all were the five singers. She saw Joey signing an autograph and as he turned to go, he glanced back at the ER and caught sight of Dee. He hesitated briefly, then smiled and waved and turned to get onto the bus. "I thought the bus was out of commission." Dee said to JoAnne. "Honey, they told me they have 22 busses travelling with them." "You're kidding." "Nope……….and if you don't want Dr. Endrizzi putting you on his permanent fecal roster, I'd get my butt into Room 2 if I were you." "Oh yeah," Dee said, watching the dark-haired singer board the bus,, "I almost forgot why I was here!" Chapter Four Home |
