ROBREDO FOR HYUNDAI HOPMAN CUP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perth, October 4 - Former Hyundai Hopman Cup winner and world No. 8, Tommy Robredo, will return to Perth this summer to represent Spain in the ITF Mixed Teams Tennis Championship, partnering Anabel Medina Garrigues. Robredo, the No. 2 Spaniard behind Rafael Nadal, has won two titles this season - the Masters Series Hamburg and in Bastad - and boasts a 42-23 record. The 24-year-old Robredo is aiming for his first year-end ATP Top-10 finish. Robredo was a 19-year-old rising star when he won the Hyundai Hopman Cup with Spanish legend Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in 2002. His blistering forehand took Spain to a thrilling victory over the USA as he came back from championship point down against Jan Michael Gambill to level the final with victory in the third set tie break. Robredo’s partner is Spain’s No. 1 female player and ranked 28 in the world. Garrigues, who is also 24, is having her best year on Tour, reaching a career-high ranking of 23 in singles and 15 in doubles, winning two singles titles in Canberra and Palermo. She also reached the singles ffinal of the WTA tour event in Guangzhou, in China last week and in doubles earlier this year she reached the Semi-Finals of Roland Garros. Spain is the second team confirmed for this year’s event, along with the USA, represented by defending champion Taylor Dent and former world No. 1 Venus Williams, the winner of five Grand Slam singles titles who will make her debut appearance in Perth. Hyundai Hopman Cup XIX is the official Mixed Teams Competition of the ITF and will be held at the Burswood Dome from 30 December 2006 to 5 January 2007.
