End of application form.
ALSO send email entry.
Fill out the form
completely! Illegible, incomplete, and late forms will not be considered! Copy
and paste form into your computer, type your entry, copy, and paste .txt into
an email message to gov_exhibit@hotmail.com
When sending application and
images, please assume you are sending them to a person that knows nothing about
art exhibits. Put your name on everything and use very clear
handwriting. This will help greatly when gathering information into a
presentation for the Georgia Capitol Gallery Selection Committee.
After you receive an
acceptance email or letter, deliver CLEARLY LABELED work (and other documents
loan form, bio, etc.) to fall conference registration desk or ship work to
Terrylynne's address above. Request confirmation email from
gov_exhibit@hotmai.com that it arrived and everything is on schedule.
Slide Labeling Guidelines: Label each image with artist's
name, title of work [Please give everything a title, or at least Untitled # 1
(flower), #2 (lake), etc. to help us distinguish one work from another]. Place
an arrow or the word “top” showing the top of the image, also label the back
and front sides of the slide. TIP: Number the slides with a pencil so you can
enter them in other exhibits. Information about acceptable frames and mats
located at http://www.geocities.com/art-appreciate/mats
Applicants
should place slides or images in a plastic sleeve or tape securely between
heavy paper, label envelope FRAGILE DO NOT BEND. Use US-mail to send images of
art works (two or more views of 3-D sculpture/crafts are encouraged and should
be labeled #1. view A, #1 view B, etc.), also email a copy of this entry form
to gov_exhibit@hotmail.com and please include a self addressed stamped envelope
(SASE) for return of images, postmarked by deadline to Terrylynne’s address
above (if you do not plan to attend the conferences or help with hanging the
show when slides will be returned).
Artistic
Subjects CRITERIA
All offices
enjoy landscapes in any media.
Offices of the Governor: Landscape
scenes, pastel abstractions.
Secretary of State: Landscapes and happy/colorful Matisse-Chagall
abstractions.
This exhibit is GAEA's chance to show off our bipartisan member's artistic
talents, not a political platform for social change. This is a subtle way to
influence policy. We are trying to impress people like your grandmother to
include art funding in the state education budget, it is not our job to tell
them how to appreciate art. (Unfortunately, portraits are usually not
accepted.)
PLEASE
DO NOT SUBMIT NUDES or controversial subject matter.
PLEASE
NOTE Size Limitations 2-D works 4 feet by 4 feet, 3-D
sculpture/crafts no more than 40 pounds and 15 inches by 15 inches, the smaller
the work the more we are able to display. There is not much room for
three-dimensional work and you probably will be asked to bring your own
pedestals.
EXHIBIT
LIMITATIONS The Georgia Council for the Arts, our sponsor, limits the number of
times an artist may display work in the Capitol Galleries to once per year. If
you have had your art exhibited in the Capitol offices with another art council
or art center you may not have your work displayed a second time within that
year. Please do not submit work to be displayed at the Capitol Galleries more
than once each year.
NOTIFICATION
OF ACCEPTANCE Participating artists will be notified before the Annual Fall Art
Conference (usually by email) and new exhibitors asked to submit an entry
package, which includes: Resume with exhibition record, short biographical
sketch, loan forms, etc. Deadline for bio, resume, etc. the first day of
December.
Particulars
about entry package, installation, and dismantling will be sent with
acceptance. Questions? Contact: Terrylynne Marshall at the exhibit email
addresses: gov_exhibit@hotmail.com
First deadline: Submit
entries between July and September 1st
The first September deadline
for slides of art is to allow artists to drop off accepted work at the Fall
Conference and to present an Electronic Governor’s Exhibit Slide Shown at the
Annual GAEA Fall Conference. Second
and final deadline mid November.

CHECKLIST
for submission
1.
Label slides (or images) as specified
2.
Type and clearly fill out entry form listing art works
3.
Enclose a self-addressed-stamped-envelope SASE (if you do not attend the Fall
Conference or deliver your work to the Capitol)
4.
Copy and paste entry form from your word processor into the body of the email
message to gov_exhibit@hotmail.com (no attachments please, it takes too much
time to download and save them, then open them again, then copy, then transfer
to another computer, we don’t have time for the extra work it takes for
attachments, help the Governor’s Exhibit Committee PLEASE don’t send
attachments Read directions below. If you send an attachment it better not have
a virus!)
5. “Do your part for art.” Volunteer to be
on Governor’s Exhibit Committee and help with organizing the exhibit such as:
a. Compile email data,
b. At Fall Conference (collecting works, run slide projector, etc.),
c. Hang and dismantle exhibit,
d. Print labels for the exhibit,
e. Who wants to learn to post data and make web pages??
The
following Internet information includes: Bookmarking Favorites, Digital Images,
and comments on Attachments.
INTERNET DIRECTIONS are listed on the web page at
the beginning of the application above, please read carefully. For reference,
after this page is printed, you may go to www.gaea.armstrong.edu click on Art
Education Resources and find Governor’s Exhibit or go directly to the web page
at www.geocities.com/art-appreciate/govexhibit.html
**BOOKMARKING WEB PAGES Bookmark this web page on
your computer as one of your Favorites for updates on acceptance,
hanging, etc. On PC’s after you get on the Internet, open the web page you need
to save for reference, go to the Internet Menu, click on Favorites (or on the
Mac I think it is Bookmark) and click on Add to Favorites. This will save the
web page for your next visit to the Internet. On your next visit to the Internet,
go to the Internet menu, click on Favorites, go down to where the web page is
listed, click on it, and the computer will find the page for you on the web.
The page will always be there on your computer (or on the school’s computer if
you are the only one with access).
DIGITAL
IMAGES The problem with digital images is that you need to be very experienced
with the computer and the properties of several graphic programs. There are
many graphic programs on the different computers we all use. Guidelines are
listed below but if you don’t understand how to upload images to web pages it
may be too much trouble to bother with. In years past when several applicants
sent images to the free hotmail email program the amount of memory was used up
quickly. The email program would not hold more than 5 digital images in its
memory. Some images were lost because of size constraints dealing with the
email limitations. If you need to send digital images, send a message telling
us so we can clear space in the email program. The best thing would be to post
the digital images to a web page so the committee members could look at them on
the web when they have the meeting.
EMAIL
ATTACHMENT DIRECTIONS Do not send attachments unless there is no other way.
Attachments have a tendency to not come through correctly, consume more memory
and time than plain email, and can carry viruses. If the Gov Exhibit Chair is
using a computer at school the attachment 1. must be scanned for viruses, 2.
downloaded to a file on the computer, 3. opened with a word processing program
(some of which usually do not open correctly on other people's computers), 4.
saved on a disk then, 5. taken home to be transferred to the computer at home,
6. open a word processing program at home, 7. open the file, 8. download it to
the home computer, and so on and so on. This results in too many time consuming
steps for the recipient of the email. It may be easier for you to send an
attachment but it is not easier for the reviewer of the email. The most
efficient alternative is to copy your typed application file and paste it into
the body of the email.
ATTACHMENT
EXPLANATION We all have different computers and they do not use the same
word-processing programs. One computer must interpret the program used by
another computer and it becomes very complicated, therefore because of bugs,
some computers can never read some attachments. The only precise way to send an
attachment and verify it can be read by anyone else’s computer is to save your
document as a text file. When you save your work the computer will ask you how
do you want to save your document. There are several formats that will work on
all computers such as
“Save
as"
.rtf --which means rich text format
.txt
-- text only
.txt
text with line breaks
The
problem with the .txt document is that most or all formatting is lost. It will
not send special fonts, italics, bold, underlines, or the like but it will send
the words you typed with no problem and that is all you need to make sure the
application above is sent through email. In summary, it is easier to copy your
application and paste it into the body of the email message but if you must
send an attachment be sure to save it and send it as a .txt document. If the
sender has the same computer system the receiver has, attachments will go
through without difficulty, check with the receiver before you send important
data through the Internet.
And
again
EMAIL ENTRIES ARE RECOMMENDED gov_exhibit@hotmail.com
Subject:
Gov. Exhibit to help with retyping, please copy the application
(between the dotted lines) into a word processing program on your computer (or
on disk). Type in your information (delete underlines & please spell check)
and paste into the body of an email message.
PRINTING
FROM THE INTERNET If your application prints out very large you can reduce it
by clicking on the Internet Menu above View, finding Text Size and selecting
Smallest to save paper and trees for printing. Leave it large if needed.

We have used creative statements in the past but took up too much room on the labels so we discontinued them for the present. **CREATIVE STATEMENT In the creative statement, use from 20-50 words to explain the impulses and inspirations that guided you to create the piece. What were you trying to express? What made you create the image? Write about your personal memories and visions, how the work came into being. For examples of past creative statements, look at the web links to previous Governor’s Exhibits 2001 to present listed at the top and bottom of the web page.
