More poems about the meaning of love

        WEDDING VOWS
If you were to write your own wedding vows
        what would you say?
What loving thoughts and words of rapture
        would come your way?
If it were me I would stop and think of every
        sweet, wonderful thing
That from my loved one the deep joy our
        great love does bring.

How we first met, that first smile, the very
        first gentle touch,
All things would be mentioned as part of why
        I love so very much,
I would compare our love to a dark red rose, the
        depth of the deepest sea,
Speak of our pure love’s strength and compare it
to the mighty old oak tree.

Yet as soft and as gentle as refreshing rain that
        falls to awake the earth,
I know I would mention our unity to be of the
        most greatest worth,
I would want to let all know of the great treasure
        I had fortunately found,
And listening to your melodic voice I would find
        no sweeter tender sound.

There would be tears in every eye as these words
        from our lips would unfold,
As we stood looking at each other and our trembling
        hands we would tightly hold,
Yet would that make any difference to the way that
        we would then live?
For what is really needed, not words, but no take
and a great deal of give.
