OBEDIENCE AND AGENCY

The Lord, in His infinite wisdom,
Gave me the power to make a choice,
To walk in the paths of light,
Or maybe follow some evil voice.

I’m glad I rejoiced in the heavens
When Thy plan I heard,
I was glad I promised to obey,
Listen to Thy every word.

But it’s not always easy to obey,
Not always easy to choose the right,
Not always easy to pray every day,
Keeping heaven’s glory in sight.

But choose the right I will,
And listen to a prophet’s voice,
Turn away from crime and ill,
And so make the better choice.

For I long to see God’s loving face,
Thank my Saviour for dying for me,
See my loved ones full of grace,
And married for all eternity.

This takes strict obedience,
Following the sacred law,
Keeping all the commandments,
Being able to the end endure.

Sacrifice and pain do not matter,
No monitory prize is of any worth
Compared to the glory far better
Than the puny things of this earth.

So give me the strength to obey,
The strength to chose the right,
The strength of my convictions,
And love Thee with all my might.

For what is a moment of pleasure?
What is a moment of worldly fame?
If striving for these brings failure
To serve, or bring everlasting shame.

Guide me in the path of right.
Help me listen to Thy voice.
Help me strive with all my might,
Always make the wiser choice.

I will obey, so I will be free
I will obey, so I may grow.
I will obey, so I may know
The joy of seeing Thee.
