NOT LONELY

Oh how sad life would be if I were lonely,
With a house and not a home, empty chairs,
With no clatter of bare feet on the stairs,
Or no one to cook for, Oh so sad to be lonely.

The need for a hand to hold,
A voice on the telephone,
Someone singing in the home,
Or hurrying in out of the cold.

But if there were no footfall
In the empty porch or hall,
No smile to greet me at days end,
I am not alone, for I have a friend.

He will never leave you all alone,
He knew what it’s like to be alone.
In Gethsemane for all, He was alone.
If we ask, He will not leave us alone.
