HOSANNA
Hosanna! Hosanna! The people cried
As Jesus came to them on humble ass.
Their coats and palms before him threw,
The throngs would hardly let Him pass.

Their joyous shouts where heard by all
Who came to Jerusalem on that special day.
Hosanna! Hosanna! Only their lips did cry,
For He would soon have to travel a different way.

Crucify! Crucify! Did the same voices call?
Did waving palms change to clenched fists?
Did the glory of the week just gone before
Change to darkness, despair and evil mists?

The Son of God was brought to shame,
Scourged, spat on, mockingly crowned with thorns.
He carried His cross till he fell with grief,
His followers as helpless as lost pawns.

Compassion, grief, love beyond our understanding
Come from this divine frame, broken for all mankind,
The nails severed sinew and nerve, muscle and bone.
He bowed in anguish and bitter pain, yet so kind.

He thought of others upon that cursed tree,
His mother, His friends, those who did Him ill,
He did not die by mans hand, but of His own choice
Gave up the ghost, graciously did the Fathers will

He rose, He rose on the third day, Hosanna! Hosanna!
Now we cry, for he overcame death, set us all free,
Saved us from Satan's grasp, gave us a path
To follow Him through life and onto eternity,
