HOW COME
How come I did not make it
to my home above?
What did I do wrong Lord,
did I not love?
I kept the commandments, all
my talents did share,
So please Lord tell me what stopped
me from getting there?
Yes, you were good and kind
but you lacked charity,
You kept the commandments but
did not learn humility.
You prayed often, tried hard yet
never talked to God above,
You served well your fellow men,
yet never gave your heart,
So though many things of good were given
‘twas only given in part.
If we could return from this interview
to live once again,
Remembering all that past I’m sure
sweet heaven we’d gain,
But we have before us all the things
we have to say
To be worthy to enter heaven when
death comes our way.
