DANGERS OF SELF-PITY
There are times when many things go wrong,
Life’s like battling against a mighty throng,
Always uphill, disappointments every day,
No fleeting moments of joy to brighten the way.

Times when you have to look hard to find
A silver lining, or a spark to lighten the mind,
Deep down you think you are slowly sinking,
Hope struggling to show through but fading.

Yet, even on the worst of days there is light,
If not from others, you can still shine bright,
No one can dim the flame that is in our heart,
Except self-pity, Satan’s tool to destroy in part.

Then when the self- pity dwells he can sneak in,
Good things don’t even matter, you start to sin,
Very slowly Satan can his wicked web weave
As the path of faith and hope our hearts leave.

Go away self- pity, I will not let Satan creep in,
I’ll stand firm as things go wrong, he can’t win
If I seek in faith and hope through a dark day,
As my inner flame grows brighter along the way.
