TO WRITE UPON
I always need a piece of paper or note book,
To write ideas down or a poem as I look
And see the things around me everywhere,
From a hungry cat to birds flying in the air.
Or I see a loved ones face in my mind eye,
Then remembered something in years gone by.
It seems the best thing for me to then do,
Is write it all down while the thought is new.
When this isnt possible and thoughts crowd in,
Ideas come flooding, my mind begins to spin,
But over the times I have worked out in my brain,
A system of thought that causes me less pain.
I put different ideas into little boxes tucked away,
So I can keep them sorted until the end of the day,
When paper or computer are right by my side
And my thoughts for poems then no longer hide.
I must go and eat now, but Ill take paper with me,
So while I am eating my thoughts can flow free,
The smell of the toast may bring back a memory,
Maybe theres another poem, lets wait and see.
