SONNET 53 CHAIN
LATE FALL BEAUTY 1ST SONNET
When fall stays late with each picturesque day,
With the fragrance of sweet fruit on the breeze,
There, robed in glory the bright coloured trees,
Swaying and dancing in a haunting way,
The birds have not flown south, as if to say,
‘Let us all stay here and so take our ease,
This year this part of the world will not freeze.
Look at that sun, and how small creatures play,
And look the juicy fruit that comes our way,
With weather like this and the sights that please
Can one imagine snow up to the knees?
Fall, stay long our constant companion be
Oh, worthy friend full of complexity.
