NATURES TREASURES

The wonderful gifts of nature
Are as numerous as the sands
That cover the shores and oceans
Of all the myriads of lands.

So many of them go unnoticed
By mans unseeing empty eyes
Most of them much too busy
To stop and treasure each prize.

Who noticed the return of the robin?
Who listened to his first sweet song?
Did anyone see that deep red sunset?
Or rush with the thoughtless throng?

I touched the sticky bud of the chestnut,
Smelt the sweet scent of pine in the rain,
Found a violet hidden behind a stone,
Saw a farmer planting summer grain.

I heard the wind sing in the trees,
And the waves break cold on rock,
Saw an eagle fly on still wings,
Watched a dog bring home the flock.

I saw a child laugh at a butterfly
As it flitted from flower to flower,
I walked in hallowed forest halls
And saw a squirrel in a leafy bower.

Pages and pages I could write
And never tire of natures treasures.
Why not take the time and taste
Some of natures sweet pleasures.
