SONNET 42 COLD WINTER
Winter comes with its cold, dark lengthened night,
Now gone has summers long, warm cheery day.
Hurry when you go out, then in doors to stay,
Away from the snow, like a shawl of white,
The tree branches are such a pretty sight.
In this white winter wonderland so gay.
Almost as pretty as the trees in May
When covered in blossom sweet, fresh and bright.
Look, snow dances as the wind blows with might,
People and traffic are caught in the fray,
Most good folks kneel down and eagerly pray
For those without homes with the cold to fight.
Yet one bright beam across the ice cold snow
Someone sings a carol as home they go.
