SONNET 45, FOR AUTUMN

Season of great beauty beyond compare,
With fields of corn, barley and ripened wheat,
Orchards loaded, branches bent in fall heat,
With bounties of apple, plum, peach and pear.
Just look at the bright colours everywhere,
Every stride you take new visions you’ll meet,
The harvest moon at night with joy you’ll greet,
Marvel at it’s size and grace gliding there
Across the dark ocean of sky so fair,
Wakes in the human heart a need to be
Part of nature, so lovely, yet so free,
That even the heathen may be aware,
Of something, or someone’s love of all things
To give us fall with the bounty it brings.
