SONNET #8 ON HEARING A FINCH

A finch sat on my window ledge at the break of day,
He sang and sang his melody in such a special way
It touched my soul as I listened, wrapped in awe
At that sweet sound, he told of all God's gifts in store
For me, for God gave me my ears that I may hear
The wonderful sounds of nature that surrounds us here.
For if I listen carefully to the song of a bird so sweet
And the babbling of the river and the robin in the street,
I may have a taste of heaven while I sojourn here on earth
As I listen and try to comprehend all the gifts from birth
A wise Father has given to me, to cherish day by day
And find in the symphonic sounds of nature a special way
To thank my God above for my ears, that to me much joy do give.
So every day I will listen to find new sounds while I live.
