A PAINTING OF THE MOON
Becky sent us a painting, just a little one,
A clear full moon in a darkened sky,
It is a thing with the family that is done,
We all look for the moon as it sails by.

We think of those who are far away,
As we gaze heavenward and try and see
That orb gliding with grace after the day
Has departed, shine in the sky if cloud free.

Then I had an idea to cheer me up, make us smile
I placed a yellow smiley face where the moon should be
It made us laugh, it surely brightened a dark drear mile,
I think I’ll remember that picture now all through eternity.

It fits just right where the moon’s face sweetly shines,
We cannot wait for the moon to be full so we can compare
The look on the two faces as look as the moon climes
Across for night domain, I know we’ll all be looking there.

Maybe if I tilt the smiley button just a little to one side
It may match the man in the moon face, that would be fun,
I am trying to remember which way, my laughter I can’t hide,
As I twist the smile, I’ll leave it to the left, now I’m done.
