HIDING TALENTS
I knew a friend who did well at everything
She played the piano and like an angel did sing,
But she said to do it for others was showing off,
When I said she was wrong at me she did scoff.

The church needed to raise money, put on a show,
To sing, to dance or play, my friend would not go.
We tried our best and had lots of fun, money came in,
But not to have heard June play was really quite a sin.

She won a scholarship, but she simply said oh, no
I don’t want to show off what I do, it’s wrong I know,
Her lovely alto voice blended with mine quite high,
At home we’d sing duets until they reached the sky.

She would not sing in church, not weddings or charity,
Pretended she was no good so truly humble she’d be.
I told her God had given her talents to share around,
It’s not humility, but not sharing, selfish she’d be found.

We are now a lot older, she no longer can play or sing,
And to me with all that talent it is quite a terrible thing,
She could also paint, now this talent she did not hide,
She can still paint a wonderful picture with humble pride.

So use the talents given you with by a loving God above,
And He will bless you if you shed some light and love
Into people’s lives, if better they become because of you,
Don’t waste the smallest talent, use it your whole life through.
