WIDEN OUR WORLD
How can we widen our world so small?
Are we cocooned in self? Afraid we may fall
If we stretch ourselves out of our comfort zone.
Are we a lonely island, preferring to be alone?
Widen the world of people each day we live,
Find something of yourself to others give,
A smile to a stranger, a call to an old friend,
You’ll soon widen your world in the end.
Widen the world of nature, see beauty everywhere,
Learn the names of flowers, for they are very fair,
Wander through the woods and see where they grow,
See by these small things that God loves you so.
Name the birds that fly free on multi-coloured wing,
Find out which song each different bird can sing,
Pair them off in couples, know the male and female,
See how long a hawk or eagle on the wing can sail.
Widen your knowledge of the mighty trees that grow,
Find time to watch their grace as they sway too and fro,
See the difference between the birch and the beech tree,
Find our how many species of pines we can always see.
Widen the world of knowledge of eternal things,
Study the scriptures, think of the good that brings,
Seek out of the best books truth and understanding
And our now small world will be forever expanding.
