PLEASE LEAVE THE PORCH LIGHT ON.

Please leave the porch light on if I am not at home,
It will be a beacon guiding those of us who roam,
It is like a welcoming call in the darkest night,
It beckons all with sweet love, that old porch light.

Leave the door unlocked just in case I have no key,
Because you know it would not be home without me,
Just close the door gently so I can always come in,
Be safe at home, away from the world’s raucous din.

Set a place at the table when meal time is come,
Remember me in your prayers when day is done,
One day I will be home, at last my heart at rest
As I return to the fold, for home I love best.

So please leave the porch light on every night,
One evening it will be my beacon shining bright,
I’ll find my way home, have loved ones all around,
For not only the porch light shines, love is found.
