        SMARTIES FOR MY MOMMY
He was only five with only a few cents to buy
A gift for Mother’s Day, so he gave a little sigh,
Did he have enough for a small Smarties pack
Or in his little hand did he still money lack?

Two for a dollar at the ‘Dollar Store’ that’s swell,
“I want smarties for my mommy, please do tell
I have enough here to to buy them” he said.
He closed his eyes tight and bowed his curly head.

There was not enough but the cashier said “Yes”
Even gave him change, a tear she did suppress,
“Does your mommy like Smarties,” she inquired
He looked and smiled yet his little face seemed tired.

He explained to those around that mommy was blind
And maybe eating Smarties the colours she may find,
Tasting red and green, brown, blue and pretty pink,
She could taste colours and know them don’t you think.

Then they saw a woman with a seeing eye dog by the door,
“Are you almost ready Tommy, but I can wait some more.”
He ran to her and told her that on Mother’s Day she ‘d see
All the different colours that were as pretty as could be.
