SOUNDS OF HOME
The ticking of the old clock hanging on the wall,
The crackle of the fire giving warmth to all,
The sound of soft sweet music from the gramophone,
These were to me when a child, the sweet sounds of home.

The clattering noise in the kitchen while food was prepared,
The laughter of the family and pretending to be scared
As grandma tells for the hundredth time an old story,
This to me was the sounds of home in all it’s noise and glory.

Too many around the table on some great get-together day,
The chatter as we worked out where all would sleep who had to stay,
Sitting very close chatting, children on adults willing knee,
This is what home really meant years ago to me.

It seems strange that over the years few things change,
The same sounds of home delight ages of every range
From going on eighty to a baby just new born,
Laughter, music, crackle of a fire, the ticking clock old and worn.

Different sounds may come to mind when you think of home,
Many other sounds come to my mind when I have to roam,
It is the simple sounds I hear that makes my heart miss a beat,
A place of love and laughter and in harmony all will greet.
