ACCOMPLISHED
What have I accomplished today
have I been helpful in some way
have I tried to do a kindly deed
tried to help someone in need
tossed a smile to a sad passer by
comforted one with a tear in their eye
even patted the head of a stray dog
guided someone out of sin’s great fog
worked on a project for the good of mankind
or some floundering soul try to find.

Yet was my day full of self and greed
only my own desires to feed
ignored those who may be in need
not bothered to plant a true seed
into a heart of someone who’s seeking
Too self centred to notice their yearning.

When I come tonight to pray
what have I accomplished this day
from which list will my actions be
actions good and kind to set me free
actions that help brighten another’s day
or will I hang my head in shame as I pray
so what have I accomplished this day.
