A QUIET EVENING
The curtains were drawn closed, the fire burning bright,
The lights gently dimmed, all snug away from cold night,
With the sound of music playing a soft, restful melody,
Playing to my heart, just for my dear loved one and me.

Free from the cold blasts of wind, and the falling snow,
It is really good that we have nowhere we should go,
Softly talking of all the wonderful days now long past,
We wondered just how long this peaceful time would last

Was that the front doorbell going a disturbing ding dong?
Here come some of our big family, what a happy throng,
‘The others are right behind, we are all here,’ one said.
Well that ends all the peace and quiet until we go to bed.

But I would love have them all come around to visit now,
I don’t mind all the chatter, in fact that can make a big row,
Just to see all those happy smiling family faces once more,
Clambering up the steps, ringing the bell at the front door.
