AN EXTRA PLACE SETTING
As long as I can remember there was always
an extra place set,
Just incase someone brought a friend along
or a stranger met.
Many times that place was not used at all,
no one came to call,
No one filled that waiting, empty spot, no
stranger or friend at all,
But a few times someone came, and the
good feeling that they had,
When they thought they were expected
it made them rather glad.
How could you know I was coming?
a place just waiting for me,
All the cutlery and plates and glass
all plain to see.
One day it was my turn to set the table
and I set two places
Extra, I did not know the reason why
you should have seen the faces
Of two friends that just happened
to be passing by
And we were waiting, or so it seemed
to their surprised eye.
One day the Saviour may be passing,
an extra place set,
He would know we were expecting Him
as our eyes met.
So please set an extra place around
the family dinner table,
If the family is a large one and you
seem to be unable
To find a space, you can still be ready
by having a place set handy,
Then when someone brings a guest,
Or someone drops by,
There will always be made room for
the welcome guest,
A home where anyone can find food
and needed rest.
