CHILDHOOD WISHES
When I was very small, a little girl of five,
Although life was hard, it was good to be alive,
I watched Grandma in her old rocking chair
Knitting for me horrid itchy underwear.
I remember thinking, she must be very old,
Years lived without number, yet I was told
I would be that age one day, just wait and see.
Thats when I thought, what Id like to happen to me.
I did not want to sit in an old rocking chair,
Although would did not mind the colour of my hair,
Id want to be doing busy things everyday,
Even with all my grandchildren often play.
Id want to help Jesus, I did not know how,
And have the same energy as I had now,
Id have a lovely garden and plant flowers everywhere,
Do things with a husband and hed always be there.
Well, I look back in wonder now Im grandmas age
And the list of wishes that grace this special page
Have all come true, every single one mentioned above,
My life is full of energy, happiness and love.
For we see the grandchildren and have lots of fun,
My husband in close beside me, many things are done
With the two of us in the sun together, planting flowers.
Now we often serve Jesus by spending many hours
In His holy temple, feeling always so very blest
That childhood wishes on me do sweetly rest.
