LONDON IN THE RAIN - Inspired by a painting by Doris Brown

Nearly every time I went up to London town,
(I only ever once did I see the queen,)
For some reason it rained, made us all frown,
My Grandmother stayed home she was never keen
To visit big places, she’d traveled enough she said.
We even went with the school to the art galleries,
We rushed from place to place, hoods on each head,
Fighting the crowds all going around with their brollies.
We saw the paintings, but knew we would land up in bed,
For we wandered around, all cold and shivering,
Wishing we have never come to London town to see
Painters like Rembrandt and Van Gogh hanging
In some freezing cold, old and smelly art gallery.
Mind you, when I glance back in retrospect,
There was something very appealing in that rain,
Seeing it in a picture of mine I see the effect
Of people standing, and just once want to go again.
