MY BLESSING LIST
When I am feeling sorry for myself and things seem to go wrong,
Or I am down in the dumps, my sad heart not wanting a song,
I give myself a little prod and try to shake off the grumpy blues
By thinking about all my blessings, wondering which first to choose.

I start by using my fingers to count my blessings, name them one by one
And it is not long before I’m smiling and my miserable feeling gone.
Then I look around at others, at their pain and trials they have to bare,
I know I should count my blessings, help others and my a little help share.

I grumble because I have the flu’ and seem to ache from head to toe,
Until I saw a young woman smile as in a wheelchair she had to go.
I moaned because my feet were cold and wet from winters ice and snow,
Until I saw a child with no legs being pulled on a sled, laughing as he did go.

Then I knew how many blessings I had that I took for granted every day,
I promised to change myself, make myself more appreciative in some way,
So now instead of just counting my blessings, I get up and try and do good,
Even in little things like helping someone smile, because I know I should.

I began to enjoy myself going around helping with a smile upon my face,
Feeling down in the dumps, no longer does my life disgrace,
Now I am trying to always help my fellow men and count my blessings too,
Do you know, I feel so much better and younger than I ever used to.

So why not count all your many blessings, count them one by one?
Then look around at others worse off and see what can be done.
Then lend a helping hand, go even more than the extra mile
And at the end of a busy day, you’ll count blessings again and smile.
