SEVEN GEESE A-WANDERING
At first there was just one goose that seemed in pain,
Took all his time to fly and fell again and again,
Then the next day to our joy and surprise we saw
Six more geese waddling not far from our front door.
They seemed to take care of their wounded friend,
They flew altogether much encouragement to send,
Fly just a short distance to the edge of the lake shore
Next time into the sedge just a few hard feet more.
They walk all togther and sit as if they wanted to chat,
The injured one could just about manage to do that,
They should be going south by now but they will not go
Until are all strong enough and more effort able to show.
The rule of the geese is quite touching to the tender heart,
When flying if one goose has to leave the Vee and depart,
Two others follow so not one is ever left to be alone,
They wait until the bird is well or to greener pastures gone.
Then two or three return catch up with their feathered friends ,
And so in life and death a sweet companionship never ends,
Caring hearts and sorrow in the great Canada geese we see,
I do hope they will be able to be together for now and eternity.
