THE DANCE OF THE LOONS
This morning we saw four loons swimming on the lake
Close by the shore, we stopped, no notice did they take,
For they seemed to be dancing in a fairy type of ring
Or playing ring-a rosy, it was such a pretty thing.
Some clouds had covered the mornings bright rays
But the loons did not mind, dancing as if in praise
Of life and living going first this way, then another,
Round in happy circles, were they two pair of lovers?
Or were they yearlings not yet ready for a life long mate?
Maybe this is some form of loon tradition, or a double date,
Whatever it was we watched, this morning was grand to see
And brought to our minds part of some strange loon mystery.
